365 Poems in 365 Days: Metaphor or Cliche?

In terms of budget cuts we hear talk of protecting the front line.
But the police are on the streets, teachers in classrooms and playgrounds,
The district nurse in her car, food safety officers, the guys who empty bins;
A scattered guerrilla war with everywhere the battleground.
We need a new metaphor, the present one doesn’t properly define.

Number 154 might be flirting with a political point, but is more pointing out the nature of war int he 21st century* and how our words, and more importantly our thoughts, have yet to catch up.

* Or perhaps everywhere always except for the large battles of the early modern and modern periods.
