I Watch Films: Deadpool
A very funny superhero film. Also crass, vulgar and violent. Occasionally witty. A kick up the backside for the genre showing that can be both funny and adult, though rather more in terms of being crude and gruesome rather than intelligent and elegant.
The film’s refusal to stick even to its own universe (which X-men timeline is it in, if anyone cares, and how come the finale is on a wrecked helicarrier?) is perhaps the best. Deadpool’s incoherent approach to everything walks the fine line between making him just a weird thing and being a relatable character.
