In episode 1 of my Age-of-Sail Fantasy series Tapping The Admiral, our heroes took part in the greatest naval battle in history. Now the battle is over and a storm has scattered the fleet. The Triumph heads for the nearest friendly port, the fortified semi-island of The Rock. Will Fanshawe is appointed prize agent, responsible for selling the ship they’ve captured in battle. A solemn duty, as the proceeds will go to pay pensions for the dead and injured.
But like the institutions of many overseas postings the prize courts are run by a cabal of those well-connected to the authorities who ensure that they keep the lion’s share of the profits. An old friend offers to help but requires a favour in return; one that will lead some of the crew off on a dangerous and dubious adventure.
