For Those Who Sink And Those Who Float by Jonathan Louis Duckworth in Beneath Ceaseless Skies

The mothers have sent Lim above the waves, onto the shore to Coldmarket. The sisters mate with the boatmen in the Froth, those who sink stay underwater and become new sisters. The boatmen gather those who float. But the boatmen haven’t come.

Lim is different. That’s why the mother have chosen her. She has heavy limbs that slow her underwater; they let her stand up on the land. She doesn’t know what goes on on land. Why the boatmen might not come, when both sides need each other. It is a disaster.

She will learn what it is to be a land creature. She will meet one who floated.
