Paint Me A Murder

Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspense

Painter Luke Lorenz finishes his last painting, goes out to sea in his boat and scuttles it. The painting floats back to shore. After his death interest in his work increases; his widow Sandra strikes a deal with gallery owner and agent Vincent Rhodes.

It’s a scam. Luke is up in the attic painting, with the intention that Sandra will sell his new paintings and he will remain there until there has been a big exhibition, then he’ll return with amnesia from a northern sea port.

Unfortunately things don’t go to plan. Luke feels trapped up there, becoming more and more unhappy. His paintings get darker, and also oddly prophetic though no one notices. Meanwhile Rhodes, having tried to help Sandra through what he thinks is her grief, is now openly courting her. Luke’s artist friends, knowing what he painted and how many canvases he did a year find the continuing production suspicious and accuse Rhodes of selling fakes. Inevitably the secret comes out and a desperate ending occurs.

Watch This: Interesting thriller about the art world and how you’re worth more dead
Don’t Watch This: Fairly silly idea that telegraphs the complications from the start
