Tornado Breakers Don’t Cry by Stefan Alcalá Slater in Flash Fiction Online

Ethel ropes the tornado but can’t stop it. Her brother Edgar finds her, a roster weathervane embedded in her. The rooster tells her she isn’t good enough, not as good as her father.

Despite this the towns people still want her to try. Tornadoes are coming and will wreck the town. Their father was the tornado breaker before, ignoring Edgar who did not have the knack, yet breaking Ethel in her turn.

She will have to find what made has a tornado breaker in the first place.
