I Watch Films: Halloween (2018)

Halloween (2018)

I can’t remember which if any Halloween films I’ve seen, so I came to this with just the idea of a big guy with a knife and the William Shatner mask (rather than the guy with the hockey mask) and this was fine, the film catches you right up. Michael Myers has been in a mental hospital for forty years.

Two true crime podcasters come to see him and get nothing. They have his mask. They then interview some other people to bring us up to speed, including the deputy, Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the doctor “treating” Myers. We see a bit of Laurie’s family (daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter) and their friends.

Then Myers escapes and it’s Halloween. There’s a tiny twist at one point but other than that it’s pretty much slasher movie set-pieces.

Watch This: For a slick modern slasher film that has just a tiny bit to say about legacy and long running franchises
Don’t Watch This: If a guy with a knife is just not scary any more
