I Watch Films: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman took the ludicrous ideas that underpin the more wacky elements of Bond films and put them front and centre. It also took the class subtext (not unique to Bond thanks to the period he originated in) and made it text.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle isn’t quite as interested in that. There’re a few class-related jokes, and a certain amount of trans-Atlantic comedy, with the Statesmen being the bourbon-centred American equivalent of the tailor-based Kingsmen. But it doesn’t seem to have anything new to say.

Meanwhile the Kingsmen, massacred in the first film, seem to have rebuilt, just in time for them to be massacred again, one character from Kingsman returning just to be killed it seemed. And one thought dead coming back. Because they were cool I guess?

So sadly I must report that this is simply an entertaining and amusing action film with plenty of over-the-top settings and characters with ridiculously overblown motivations and reactions.

Watch This: For a fun action romp not as good as the first one
Don’t Watch This: If you want anything more than confused thoughts on drug use.
