I Watch Films: Maniac

Maniac (1963)

In the south of France, when Georges’ daughter Annette is raped, he tortures and kills the rapist with his blowtorch. The locals think this is fair enough, perhaps a bit excessive, but the law takes a different view and he’s committed to an asylum. Four years later American painter Jeff Farrell ends up at the inn Georges’ wife and daughter now run. Initially interested in the Annette, he shifts his attentions to her stepmother, Georges’ wife, Eve.

This all takes place in various beautiful and extraordinary parts of the Camargue and Provence and stuff.

Jeff wants to make things official with Eve. She wants to help Georges escape from the asylum. Then, Jeff believes, Georges and Annette will flee the country, and he and Eve can move on. But everyone has their own agenda.

A noir thriller with terrifying torture and wheels within wheels. Shot in some gorgeous countryside!

Watch This: Gripping crime thriller
Don’t Watch This: Some very horrid moments
