Liner Notes for The Report On The Haunting Of Bingley Manor
Liner notes for my story The Report On The Haunting Of Bingley Manor.
****
In a break from the usual format I make Larry Kowalski, model, TV actor, American, the viewpoint character. I asked myself the question, what does it look like when a Lacey Lee investigation is going on around you, but youāre not Lacey Lee? Then I got over-excited about making a ghost-hunting TV show, and the wacky antics the cast get up to.
Iām not aiming at any particular show or character (7th most recognisable medium in Britain is just funny though, itās like being 7th man on the moon (David Scott), a fine achievement but really only for the fans). This series, like Lacey is very sceptical of the supernatural; only when every possible natural explanation has been ruled out will we consider the afterlife. No clues from ghosts, no crimes that rely on clairvoyance.
Hope that doesnāt disappoint anyone.
Like most of the settings in the series, Iāve done a lot of research over the years into making TV shows, and there are as many as there are shows, and more in some cases. So Iāve stolen bits and pieces from various people, mashing them together in a not quite sensible way. Is this a documentary, a reality TV show, a drama, well itās all of that and more and thatās why the making of it is incoherent.
Bingley Manor isnāt real either, and, again, itās a patchwork quilt of a building, taking rooms and relationships and history from several real buildings and also some fictional ones. So to the murder.
The Human Tissue Act is real, and why you shouldnāt interfere with suspected human remains if you should be so unfortunate to come across them. Those under a hundred years old need to go through the process, identification, coroner, inquest, death certificate etc.
Phone hacking for tabloid stories is a bit of an old story, most of them have learned their lesson for the moment. Still, since it can be done, someone will be doing it.
The pacing is off on this, the actual case doesnāt come up until more than halfway through. Thatās the thing with an off-speed, odd episode, you can get away with that sort of thing. Or at least I hope you can.
Another odd one next month for some reason.
