I Watch Films: The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb

The Curse Of The Mummy’s Tomb

Egypt, circa 1900, and an expedition of Egyptologists have found the tomb of Ra-Antef, the son of Ramesses VIII. One of them is killed and has his hand cut off. The rest of them – his daughter Annette, Sir Giles, John Bray (Annette’s fiancé) and Hashmi Bey (a local representative) – intend to put the artefacts in the Cairo museum, but the American financial backer Alexander King intends to take them on tour. Sir Giles resigns at this and Bray is put in charge. There is, of course, some talk of curses and ancient murders.

On the ship back to England a mysterious man attacks Sir Giles and Annette, who is defended by Beauchamp, another passenger. He invites them to stay with him in London. The exhibition is opened with great fanfare but when the sarcophagus is opened the mummy, which was there when they set up, is missing.

People start to die. Annette, oblivious and neglected by Bray falls in love with Beauchamp, who in turn seems to know a lot about ancient Egypt. There is a detour or two but anyone familiar with mummy/monster/horror films should be able to predict what’s going on.

Watch This: Mummies! Curses! Early 20th century London! Classic horror.
Don’t Watch This: It’s all rather silly
