I Read Books: Gun Machine

Gun Machine

Warren Ellis writes a crime novel about Manhattan. There’s shiny strange futuristic internet maps about latency to Wall Street so that you get a microsecond better on algorithmic trading. There’s Old Manhattan before the Dutch arrived. And there’s the now, with bonkers CSI and a cop on the edge and an apartment full of guns arranged into an occult pattern.

This is a convoluted conspiracy of a story that begins when the detective’s partner is killed, his head blown off by a naked man with a shotgun. It gets weirder, though not quite as weird as some of Ellis’ work, but pretty weird for a crime novel.

Read This: For a weird crime novel
Don’t Read This: If murder and unpleasant people doing odd things are not for you
