I Read Books: Eat

Eat

It doesn't quite say EAT NIGEL SLATER but on the off chance you see it written that way then be aware that you should not Eat Nigel Slater.

This cookbook is subtitled The Little Book Of Fast Food by which Nigel Slater means things you can cook quickly. Mostly he sticks to it, talking about meals you can slap together in 30-40 minutes though he lapses a bit here and there with longer cooking times. He divides it up by cooking method, mostly according to the implement he uses to cook in.

These tend to be simple, which is good, but some are very simple, just bits of meat or veg with some flavours. On the one hand this is good because yes, this is cooking and proper food and people should take that message away but on the other hand I don’t really need to be told how to cook up some potatoes, onions and peppers together.

Still there’s some interesting combinations and a couple of good ideas that are new to me (beans made into cakes or patties has been kind of useful). And althugh there are a lot of fairly mediocre combinations I don’t know of any cookbook that knocks it out the park with every recipe.
