I Watch Films: Cry Of The Werewolf
Cry Of The Werewolf
The curator of the Latour museum is murdered. The museum, once the house of Marie Latour, a Romani princess, is also the secret location of her tomb. The Romani are camped outside town, and don’t want the tomb disturbed. No one believes the werewolf rumours about Marie LaTour, it’s just another macabre exhibit in the museum.
Except the curator’s son, a scientist, and the secretary, who becomes his fiancé, discover wolf fur. The police find “women’s fingerprints” which, ah, well that’s not something you can do. Elsa, the secretary, comes from Transylvania, something of a red herring, having come back with curator after he toured Europe 7 years ago. The film being from 1944, there’s some allusions to problems there.
There’s some cool, weird, and slightly racist Romani stuff, they scatter for most of the year, but gather here, for an annual funeral when all the dead of the year are buried. In all a somewhat forgettable chiller.
Watch This: For a bit of low budget werewolf action
Don’t Watch This: Not exactly state of the art for 1944, it
hasn’t aged especially well
