The father had belonged to the orchard, as had his mother and his mother’s mother and so on. The child was raised as much by the trees as the parent. And perhaps, perhaps this was as well, for though they were jealous, the orchard took all the pain and grief.
But now the father has died and been buried in the orchard. And a new tree grows.
