I Watch Films: Planet Dune

Planet Dune

So having been disappointed by a couple of Asylum Studiosmockbusters recently, I was pleasantly surprised by this rip-off of Dune. Which isn’t to say it’s good!

(Other than sandworms and a desert planet, nothing from the Dune book(s) is used, which is good if you are not a Dune fan.)

Astrid is a space pilot on probation after wrecking a ship to protect crew from debris. She disobeys orders to rescue a Russian Cosmonaut. To avoid a court martial she volunteers for hazardous duty and joins a rescue team made up of malcontents and petty criminals. They’re sent to a desert planet where a transport has gone down.

No one told them about the giant sandworms.

Watch This: For a silly desert monster film, which swings between arguments in caves and/or spaceships, brief tense moments and ridiculous gory deaths
Don’t Watch This: It’s more like Tremors than Dune and Tremors is better
In A Piece Of Stunt Casting: Sean Young, who played Chani in the 1984 film of Dune, is Astrid's boss and mentor
