I Watch Films: Confessions Of A Driving Instructor
Confessions Of A Driving Instructor
After the fiasco at the end of Confessions Of A Pop Performer Sid Noggett has bought a driving school, and as the film opens his brother-in-law Timmy Lea passes his instructor test (by shagging the instructor-instructor). There’s another, much nicer looking driving school next door, run by Mr Truscott (Windsor Davies inexplicably playing a Scotsman), his assistant Tony Bender and Truscott’s daughter who both Bender and Timmy Lea end up pursuing. Sid has finally moved out of the Lea family home into the flat upstairs with his wife and son, leaving Timmy Lea to move in with the driving school secretary whose Mum is looking for a lodger. Inevitably both mother and daughter also shag Lea.
Various driving related stunts and seductions occur. Eventually the climax comes as the Lea’s wedding anniversary comes and they take them to the exotic and decadent luxury of an Italian restaurant, followed by a rugby sevens match that Lea finds himself playing against Bender. Bender is accidentally doped with an aphrodisiac, and there’s a final inexplicable car chase.
Again, there are several things that seem to be setting up, only to be just the one more-or-less amusing sketch. Some of the jokes are good, but most are just a bit eh. I don’t even think it’s getting more half-arsed, it’s just a 70s sitcom with more bums and boobs than usual.
