This is Geoff Ryman’s pioneering hypertext net-novel (online at the link). 253 people riding on a London Underground train from Embankment to Elephant And Castle are described in sections of 253 words. Many have similarities, some are very strange, many are under stress or hiding something.

Some get off, some cause trouble, some strange things occur. It ends with the train crashing.
