I Watch Films: Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Several supervillains are formed into a team “Task Force X” by Amanda Waller, a frightening force of nature in charge of ARGUS, the DC Universe’s secret spy and supers organisation. The notional reason is to counter a threat if a hostile Superman ever turned up. Since they make no appearance in the Justice League movie(s) I think we can dispense with that argument.

When a super disaster occurs in Midway City, they’re sent in to rescue someone, it all goes wrong, there’s an escape attempt that also goes wrong and then…

Look the film doesn’t work, it’s all over the place. But if it did work, the scene in the bar when they’re admitting they’re all terrible, flawed, monsters even, and then they decide to go out and save the world anyway – it gets so close.

Anyway, it’s a dumb film that tries to look like a dumb fun film and sometimes succeeds.

Watch This: Fun but stupid supervillain shenanigans
Don’t Watch This: If you want the film to make sense or to avoid wild swings in tone without rhyme or reason
