I Watch Films: The Resurrection Of Zachary Wheeler

The Resurrection of Zachary Wheeler

A reporter (Leslie Nielsen in a serious role) recognises a senator involved in a car crash. He attempts to follow him to hospital but he’s spirited away and a coverup makes him sound like he made a mistake.

In New Mexico a mysterious clinic injects DNA into “somas”, who are essentially clones, and then harvest the organs to transplant them into patients. They save Wheeler. The committee there choose who they will accept as a patient according to what they can do for America (important foreigners are offered treatment in exchange for favours).

The reporter tries to track them down, and agents try and intercept him incompetently. It feels like it’s an episode of one of those science fiction anthology TV shows, slightly expanded in plot and scope but basically two guys confronted with a weird situation having to figure out how they react, and ending up with a question.

Watch This: For a curious 70s science fiction adventure that gestures towards real ethical questions
Don’t Watch This: If you want those questions engaged with under anything other than the most obvious ways
