I Watch TV: The Rookie (Season 2)
Season two here. For the most part it’s the same as Season one (see review here); small cop stories, some of which stretch out, some of which just happen. There are more high concept gimmick episodes; the ballistic missile alert episode, the serial killer two-parter, some dirt cop/organised crime stuff and even some covert ops skullduggery. Lots of people find romantic partners, some have family issues. New characters are introduced, mostly through police procedure, and old ones clear off.
There are a few celebrity cameos too.
If I wasn’t too on board with the serial killer runner and the dirty cop stuff, it was mostly because those stories are on every cop show on TV and light-hearted traffic stops aren’t. More traffic stop comedy please. Also more needing to do things to meet the department requirements for training or other reasons. Situation Dramedy, that’s what I’m hoping for. The camera work, using body and car cams, remains good.
