I Read An Online Anthology: Avatars Inc

Avatars Inc

This is an anthology of Science Fiction stories commissioned by the XPRIZE foundation. In theory they are the uploaded memories of various people who have used avatars, robots surrogate bodies, found in a giant mech on Mars. There are inconsistencies in the future history that unfolds though perhaps no more so than if one were to read stories from throughout the Victorian period.

Some are very good (Johanna Sinisalo’s A Bird Does Not Sing Because It Has An Answer and Pat Cadigan’s The Final Performance Of the Amazing Ralphie stick with me), while others are a little more pedestrian, yet the overall effect and quality it high.

Read This: For some powerful stories about a climate-change-ridden robot-riding techno-optimistic future
Don’t Read This: If a dozen slightly different takes on in habiting a robot body sounds bad
