I Watch Films: Horrors Of The Black Museum
A woman receives a parcel and discovers it is binoculars. She tries them out and is stabbed in the eyes, killing her. If this is too much for you, probably best to bail on the film now as this is basically what’s happening throughout.
The police are baffled, and are interrupted by (true) crime writer Edward Bancroft. He references several recent murders, and notes that they resemble objects from the Metropolitan Police’s Black Museum (a real thing) of murder-related items. It turns out Bancroft has a similar museum of his own, with vats of acid and an electric machine and so forth.
Anyway, the first half of the film is all about some gruesome murders while withholding the who and why, the second half is how things spin out of control. The why isn’t especially interesting, they’re just a sadist with hypnotic abilities and (maybe?) Dr Jekyll’s formula.
