I Watch Films: Aces High

Aces High

It’s a film about WW1 pilots. Croft, fresh out of school with 15 hours flying time, joins 76 squadron, commanded by Gresham, who was his house captain at school, and who is also engaged to his sister. There’s a pilot who may be a coward and an older one known as uncle. They’re given some important work to do, taking photos of a strongpoint before an attack, then taking down artillery spotting balloons during the attack.

There are some good scenes of biplanes flying, a little bit of social commentary and a vast amount of the strain they’re put under.

Watch This: Some excellent flying scenes, and some good performances of men under pressure
Don’t Watch This: If varying ways of coping with intolerable strain are not your cup of tea
