I Watch Films: Revenge Of The Zombies
Revenge Of The Zombies
Lila has died in Florida. Her brother goes to visit her husband Dr Max von Altermann, taking with him his friend (the two of them pretend to be each other in an imposture that goes nowhere) the local doctor who suspects something and also his comedy sidekick black manservant Jeff. Spooky things occur and Lila’s body vanishes to everyone’s consternation. Jeff, superstitious and cowardly, thinks he’s run into zombies but no one believes him.
Max is, of course, raising zombies. He intended to raise Lila but it turns out she’s too self-willed even in death. Things going wrong they call in the sheriff, but it turns out that Max is a Nazi agent and the guy they called is one too, pretending to be the sheriff. There’s a lot of running around, slow moving zombie attacks, comic set pieces, a secret lab and Jeff doing fast talking comedy while Max and Lila are portentous about the secrets of the afterlife.
A follow up to King Of The Zombies, we have much the same situation, a zombie maker who is a Nazi agent and a group who suspect neither of those things arrive, causing chaos. It’s remixed a little, and fortunately the film is short so Jeff’s comic turn only outstays its welcome a little.
Watch This: Silly zombie horror film
Don’t Watch This: Both creepier and more bafflingly
inexplicable than King Of The Zombies
