I Watch Films: The Earth Dies Screaming

The Earth Dies Screaming

In this 1960s black and white science fiction film we start with a man walking through a deserted village, looking at things. Nothing is open, no people can be seen. He breaks into a pub where he finally meets someone. It’s very 28 Days Later.

A group of survivors gather and try to work out what happened. Eventually they realise that they were all protected from a gas of some sort. Following which there are attacks by robots and zombies.

A promising and eerie start turns into a low budget sub-Doctor Who episode, though fortunately it’s not much longer than one. A curiosity with a couple of good ideas, most of which have been improved on since.

Watch This: A short and fun science fiction adventure with an iconic opening
Don’t Watch This: There’s a lot of people hanging out in rooms trying to figure out what to do next
Also: There is a UB40 song of the same name that riffs off the film (I think?)
