Monster of the Week 38 is Mythos Episode, our heroes uncover some actual truth, a backstory is revealed, you get to see some monsters clearly and the mystery deepens, the threat increases.

In the X-Files fandom, an episode in which they investigate a mystery with no connection to the alien conspiracy is known as a Monster Of The Week Episode, and missing one only means you missed what occurred there. Meanwhile one that does relate to the alien conspiracy mythos is known as a Mythos episode and builds on events in previous mythos episodes. This is the joke.
