I Watch Films: Armed Response

Armed Response

There’s a system called Temple that’s an AI that can tell if people are lying; in fact it can pluck numbers and ideas out of someone’s head. But now one of the facilities has gone wrong. Into this haunted prison go a team that has served together in the middle east, where they find the only survivor is a wanted terrorist who was locked in a sensory deprivation tank.

Anyway the CCTV images broadcast to them doesn’t match the recordings. There are missing frames that have weird shadows in. They find themselves locked in.

This film efficiently works through its sequences, but none of the setpieces – interrogation, fighting, flashback – are especially interesting. Rather than claustrophobic, the fact that two thirds plus of the scenes are in dark rooms and corridors just makes it look a bit cheap. The moral choices are generally forced and dumb. And finally [SPOILERS], is the AI is haunted by the spirits of people murdered by the team or did it come aware and decided to treat the team as terrorists using psychological warfare? I mean it does things it couldn’t do but that seems stupid?

Watch This:
For an undemanding action film that flirts with horror
Don’t Watch This: For any actual discussion of interrogation or murder of suspected terrorists.
