I Read Books: Ready Steady Cook 2

Ready Steady Cook 2

Ready Steady Cook was a TV show (which has recently been revived) in which members of the public would turn up with £5 worth of food and chefs would compete to make a meal out of them in 20 minutes (with the aid of a very generous larder of ingredients). This is the second spin-off book of recipes from the show.

Sadly they fail to capture the excitement of seeing what the chefs are going to do, either transforming boring stuff into good looking plates of food or making baffling bags of ingredients into something you might want to eat. The 20 minute time limit is brutal leading to a lot of grilled or fried meat or fish served with a simple sauce.

The vegetarian recipes are perhaps a cut above, but even there they’re not especially inspiring or enlightening.
