I Watch Films: The Philadelphia Experiment (2012)

The Philadelphia Experiment (2012)

In this made for TV film a scientist has (re)discovered a method of making things invisible; obviously this then brings back the USS Eldridge, a destroyer they tried to make invisible in 1943. It keeps appearing and disappearing. A young lieutenant who’s aboard comes off; his granddaughter’s boyfriend, a sheriff’s deputy, gets trapped on board. The lieutenant and the granddaughter team up, track down the old inventor who did the original experiment (he faked his own death) to try and get the ship back to 1943. Meanwhile the department of defence woman decides to kill everyone involved to avoid embarrassment.

It’s a big mess of a film, lots of dumb stuff. Occasionally it tries to lift itself up and do something interesting (the Eldridge lands on top of a building in Chicago that’s pretty cool) but then it all goes stupid (the DoD woman sends troops in to contain the situation. Lady, it’s on the news now.)

Watch This:
For a silly film that tries to say something about time travel; indeed the last minute of the film almost makes the film interesting
Don’t Watch This: It’s stupid and doesn’t really work
