The unnamed narrator marries into a family of artists and moves to Kolkata. She sees a tiny bit of the city, no more, but she does have a son. One day she paints a glorious picture of a bride. But this attracts the kerosene man and things spiral out of control.
She made the picture from stories but maybe the stories are true.
