Castles Made of Sand

Ax, Sage and Fiorinda may have saved England for now (see Bold As Love). So they work on the mysteries of the relationship between the three of them. After a rocky start they seem to find a stable place.

But not that stable. Ax is torn by the dictatorship, thinking that maybe he isn’t needed any more and England can cope and he’s doing more harm. Sage is following the path to the Zen Self, oneness with the informational structure of the universe. And Fiorinda is still trying to cope with her legacy as daughter/lover to legendary rock star American-Irish Rufus O’Neill.

Of course everything is not well. The Ancient Briton Tendency aka the Celtics aka the Green Nazis in the Counterculture are on the rise again after being neutered by Pigsty’s coup and appeased by the Deconstruction Tour and the rise of techno-green gadgets. The Prime Minister is caught up in a human sacrifice scandal that Ax and Sage just manage to get him out of.

Ax decides to quit, and taking an excuse to join in the destruction of the Danube dams, followed by a Flood Countries conference in Amsterdam, leaves England. But now it becomes clear that O’Neill is a powerful magician, super-charged by people’s belief in him as a rock megastar. He has political ambitions, and they coincide with the Ancient Briton’s plan to solve the environmental crisis by killing most of the inhabitants of Europe by magic.

But his real ambitions centre on his daughter Fiorinda, and Ax vanishes while on a secret trip to America to try and get the data quarantine lifted, while Sage is secluded in the Zen Self quest. Can Fio hold England together, or even herself, while surrounded by enemies?
