I Watch Films: Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ant-Man And The Wasp

Excellent use of size-changing effects. Some good thefts. Ant-Man and Ant-Daughter’s dynamic is cute. Hank Pym continues to be terrible and self-centred but maybe, just maybe, he’s got a bit more going on*. Ant-Man’s attempts to combine going straight (he’s under house arrest) and doing the right thing gives the film some real stakes, more than Janet Van Dyne’s  arbitrary deadline.

And it’s nice to see Hannah John-Kamen hitting the big screen** as Ghost.

Everytime Ant-Man becomes GiANT-Man it all goes a bit silly and dumb. The film seems to think we should be really impressed by this, but it's just a giant robot suit scene really, with no giant monsters to fight.

Watch This: Because you like some comedy crime superhero heist action
Don’t Watch This: You like more grit in your superhero stories, or maybe no superheroism at all.

* Until the post-credits scene
** Although as I watched this on the telly-box, technically I did not see her on a big screen
