Mrs Patterson’s Home For Landlocked Men by Marie Brennan in Flashpoint Science Fiction

In New Mexico, far from the sea Mrs Patterson runs her home. The men there can’t have water, not to wash in, not to drink. Weak beer and strong tea is what they have. It’s to keep them safe, keep them from drowning themselves.

It’s mermaids of course. The men have been seduced by them and want to go to the water to drown themselves. But Mrs Patterson and her ladies can keep them safe. And perhaps take two birds with one stone.

Read This: A story about the aftermath and solving problems
