My Boyfriend’s Back
Johnny Dingle has been in love with Missy McCloud since first grade and now it’s high school senior year and she’s dating Buck, a jock. He stages a robbery at the store she works at so he can rescue her, but is interrupted by a real robbery and is shot. Missy promises to go to prom with him, but then he dies.
After being buried he returns from the dead to attend the date. His family take it in their stride, as do most of the people at school. Everyone thinks that he might try to eat them. It turns out someone’s husband returned from the dead fifteen years ago, and learning how to be a zombie he goes to visit her and then on to their doctor.
This opens up a subplot where the doctor discovers that he can use zombie flesh to make a rejuvenating serum. This intersects with the main plot in which, due to prejudice against zombies, Chuck, Buck’s sidekick, attacks Johnny and Johnny kills him, eating a little bit.
This is a slightly confused comedy, in which people either simply accept that Johnny is back from the dead, realise they can’t treat him as living (laws, school rules etc) and also that he’s a hideous monster back from the abyss. Sometimes all three in one scene for comedy, other times it seems they’ve lost track a bit.
Watch This: For some zom-rom-com laughs from before it
became a trend
Don’t Watch This: It’s not great as a zombie film and little
better as a comedy
