I Read Stories: The Noon Witch Goes To Sound Planet
The Noon With Goes To Sound Planet by Kristina Ten in Lightspeed
The original Noon Witch – Lady Midday, sunstroke personified – is Hailey’s mother. But people still get struck down when she’s about. Even here in California. There are enough people from the old country – enough supernatural people from the old country – to know who she is.
Hailey wants to rebel, to prove she doesn’t bring down the sun to make people sick. And Sound Planet, a summer weekend festival is coming up. She loads her car with water, rehydration kits, sun block, hats, shades. No one is going to get heatstroke on her watch.
But even the regular festival might succumb on a hot summer’s day, she’s not the only supernatural person there, and some of them have the nature to cause trouble.

Don’t Read This: If people at a festival won’t protect
themselves from sunstroke, or being led off pied-piper style by a mythical
creature, then they should learn to do better
