Anthony Hopkins is a stage magician called Corky whose gimmick is he has a foul-mouthed puppet called Fats who heckles all his tricks. He’s on the verge of success, and his agent has got a network to offer him a pilot, but they want him to take a medical. He refuses and runs away to his old hometown.

There he hires a cabin from his old flame who has married some guy they were at school with. It becomes clear that Fats is a full-blown aspect of Corky’s personality that Corky does not have under control. This psychological thriller ends in murder.
