I Read Stories: Systems by Nathaniel Lee
Systems by Nathaniel Lee in Kaleidotrope
The ecology is falling apart. Our narrator meets with his ex, who tells him about the frogs, and he suggests she writes a paper on it, to show everyone she was right. She’s not impressed.
He does work on crows, who are smart. You have to wear a mask while doing experiments or they recognise you, for good or ill. He has a system, a plan for getting them to do something useful.
They’re too smart.
