I Read Books: The Bone Doll's Twin

The Bone-Doll’s Twin

So long as a daughter of Thelatimos’s line defends and rules, Skala shall never be subjugated.’ That’s a prophecy. But after the reign of mad Queen Agnalain, her son Erius took the throne. Now wizards dream of a queen to come. Female relatives of Erius have been dying. His sister is expecting twins and there is a plan to hide the daughter.

So is born Tobin, haunted by his dead sibling. They must groom him to be queen, yet at the same time keep him safe in the only way possible, by raising him as the most loyal of nobles to his uncle the king and his cousin the prince.

This is the background. The bulk of the novel is about wizards travelling and learning and meeting people, and Tobin growing up and discovering things, making friends, learning to fight, and coping with death and ghosts. High fantasy that is very grounded in daily life.

Read This: For a good fantasy novel with dark plots, engaging characters and lots of detail
Don’t Read This: Infanticide and it’s the first and best of a trilogy
