I Read Stories: Raid On Madras
Raid on Madras by Aditya Desai
Raid on Madras is a film that Kalpana is watching and that she wrote a paper on once. Countess Margaret has an Indian butler, Rajaji, and a lover, Jack Danger. They go to Madras, but there’s a war on. When there is a raid, Rajaji sacrifices himself for his mistress as she and Danger escape.
Kalpana is divorcing her husband and the apartment bleeds into one in the film, and so do her dreams. But where the dream begins and the film ends, and what the film means and the how the details of the actors from outside the film run into the dream, and how much the dream reflects or creates reality – those are questions one has to answer for oneself.
Read This: For an examination of old adventure movies through a 21st century lens, in an enjoyable manner – a dream in which a character does not like what is going on
Don’t Read This: If you want clear, uncomplicated adventure
