I Read Stories: The 18th Hole by Stephen J Golds
The 18th Hole by Stephen J Golds in Tough
Richard’s a millionaire and a bad golfer and he makes bad bets. Having been caught cheating with one of the waitresses at the golf club his wife has divorced him. He claims she and her new guy are abusing the kids.
He wants them taken care of, beaten up. So he turns to his
bookie, his golf coach, the man he vents his problems too. Our narrator. That’s
not really his thing. But he’s being offered a lot, a share in the golf course.
And he does have a guy. Not too smart, but good at making people pay their debts when they don't want to.
The important thing is compartmentalisation. Making sure that none of this can come back on you.
Read This: Short, gritty crime caper in which things get out
of hand because everyone is out of their depth
Don’t Read This: Very unpleasant people do worse things
