I Watch Movies: The Mad Room
The Mad Room
The widow of a general is trying to build a museum to her late husband at her home on Vancouver Island. This is interrupted when her secretary is called away. The secretary's uncle died making her the guardian of her younger brother and sister.
The brother and sister have been institutionalised, and require a “mad room” to go to when stressed. Eventually it comes out that their parents were killed with a butcher knife and one, or both, of them was probably to blame.
The widow is found dead but they pretend she’s gone away on business, so there is a farcical scene in which all the ladies of the museum committee arrive, and are then accused of hiring a masseur as a gigolo by the masseur’s wife.
A good-looking film that seesaws between suspense and domestic drama, often awkwardly.
Watch This: A creepy film with a few good jokes
Don’t Watch This: Good acting and fun sets don’t make up for
a pedestrian and melodramatic storyline.
