Essarala is a mermaid whose name means seeks the stars. A starship arrives on her planet and she is determined to find out what’s up out in space. To do that she’ll need legs so her sister Kiovasa takes her to the witch.

Starships are strange places even with legs, but there are many different types of being aboard so she fits in as well as any. Time moves differently out in the stars and she has promises to keep back home, some she didn’t realise she’d made.
