After her mother dies Fiona buys a house. It has ghosts in it. The first is a seagull that got caught in the flue and died, and keeps coming back despite her burying it in the garden.

She asks Annika at the estate agent about who died in the house and they look into it and become friends and then lovers. And maybe Fiona will learn to deal with the ghosts.
