I Read Stories: The Bee Thing by Maggie Damken
The Bee Thing by Maggie Damken in Strange Horizons
The narrator’s great-grandfather came back from world war one with a beehive for a head. This was not spoken about much but known, others came back with “…their heads transformed into things like rusted spoons, chipped porcelain dishes, or even eggs with spindly cracks in the shells.”
The narrator’s head has turned into a beehive and it might be stress or something but no one really knows.
She got dumped by her boyfriend and the bees keep buzzing, so she left the city where she went to college and went back home.
