I Watch TV: Vagrant Queen
Vagrant Queen
So Elida was Queen of a space opera kingdom, but then there was a revolution and now she’s a scavenger. Unfortunately Lazaro, the villain, is after her, and he’s even going to go against the council of Admirals to chase her. There’s also royalists, bounty hunters, the Galactic Parking Authority and her two friends Isaac (actually from Earth, desperate to get back and so keeps letting her down) and Amae (an alien who uses “crackers” as an expletive and seesaws between naive and competent).
This is based on a comic and has a tendency to be a neon-colours, weird masks, explosions, loud music, weird set-piece mess. So I can’t quite say that I think it’s great. But when the awkward set-ups come together into a funny and violent finale, as they often do, then it’s good sci-fi adventure TV.
Watch This: For some shooting, piloting, sneaking space opera action
Don’t Watch This: If you don’t like moving from farce and nonsense to someone gruesomely having their head blown off and some anguished betrayal and back every five minutes.
