I Read Books: Mindstar Rising

Mindstar Rising

Greg Mendel is a veteran of the Mindstar brigade, which means he has a psychic gland in his head. Now in post-warming, post-people’s socialist party England he’s a private investigator and sometime vigilante. He’s hired by Philip Evans, the tech-magnate and eminence grise behind the Restoration and New Conservative party to find out who’s been ripping him off on his orbital manufactories.

After that things get complicated.

It’s a science fiction detective novel, and quite a good one. To begin with it seems that Greg is overpowered as he’s able to read minds – not thoughts but he is able to tell that someone is lying and what about, which with usual detective skills makes him very good at finding the guilty and then applying pressure to get them to talk. As the plot expands he brings in another psychic who can see future timelines, and a super-hacker, and yet even these advantages aren’t enough against the worst of the enemies out there.

Read This: For a fun science fiction detective story
Don’t Read This: If a secretive billionaire overthrowing a dictatorship as the backstory is just too much
