I Read Books: The Secret Of Life

The Secret of Life

Dr Mariella Anders was part of the team that stopped the Firstborn virus, saving the world. Now she finds herself caught up in another biological emergency as a slick appears in the Pacific ocean. It’s believed it has something to do with the Chinese Mars mission; they claimed they didn’t find life there but now it seems they did. Anders is an obvious candidate for the Mars mission to try and uncover the secret.

There’s politics and personal rivalries and a corporation that is paying for the Mars mission and secrets and things go wrong, and the Chinese are trying to destroy the Chi organism (as they call it). Anders has to navigate her way through this, relying on various groups outside the mainstream, both on Earth and Mars, to try and find a solution that she can live with. Hopefully before the ocean eco-systems are destabilised.

Read This: For a near future thriller that has been caught up by history, but nothing that a 20 year time shift wouldn’t fix.
Don’t Read This: If technical details of biological systems interspersed with glorious descriptions of Mars, Earth and the spaces in between sounds dull
