Mother, Do Not Grieve by Tunvey Mou in Tasavvur

At the age of ten, orphaned, survivor of a famine, she is taken to the House Of Grief. Grieving Mother gives her the name Charukeshi, ā€œBeautiful Hairā€. The people give offerings to the house. Everything they serve to the girls is too hot.

They worship the nameless death god. Sometimes girls leave, vanish in the night. Grieving Mother claims that they have gone to childless couples. Charukeshi’s fate is different. She goes to her bridegroom, and to the pyre.

Grieving Mother has misunderstood, has underestimated Charu.
