Liner Notes for A Document Trail

An epistolary story! Here’s Rivers story so far for those of you new to the sequence, or maybe you’ve forgotten over the last seven years. Having been the most senior survivor of a disaster, Rivers was sidelined in the Deep Patrol until Gunn took her on his crew, as pilot and his second in command. The first volume of stories, Oracular Operations, ended with the Last Venture war breaking out. With pilots and officers needed for that, Rivers got promoted and assigned away; she appears only in flashback in the second volume, TetraHedron.

Now she’s been assigned as intelligence officer to Captain Lord Richards, who was the even-more-reckless rival to Gunn in the first volume.

This is, I regret to say, almost self-explanatory; good for the story, bad for the liner notes. Richards and Rivers are at odds, him having ideas that are more about him and his ego. Or so it seems; we never see his messages. Perhaps he has reasons for his actions, or lack of them!

This is the final piece before the finale of current, third, sequence of these stories. Rivers lays it out in the intelligence reports, but let me repeat it here for anyone who isn’t interested in joining the dots. Ella Wright, Jack and Rivers are now all on the trail of the space angel, as is Gunn, on board Quintilius’s ship. It’s all set for a reunion! And also active are the Daughters Of The Tower, the villains. They’ve been reading the Deep Patrol’s mail. Looks like they’ll all come together for a big fairy tale ending.

Fairy tale? Where did that come from?
